Customer Reviews

Was great at firstBought this for my wife for Christmas. Was great at first. Nice and soft, nice color. She said that it kept her nice and warm, even on a low setting. Hasn't even been 2 months and now one side of the blanket isn't working properly. One of the controls keeps giving an error code. Followed the instructions for re-setting, still giving error code. Had to contact the company for support. After being talked to like an idiot, we were told that we must pay to ship it to some repair center in Mississippi, with no time frame on how long it might take for it be fixed and sent back. For the cost of this blanket, I would have expected it to last longer than 6 weeks. 1Warm, cozy, comfy. Pricey, but worth it...better than the old wool ones of yesteryear. In the over 50 years I have had electric blankets, this is the most luxurious one I have ever had! All my others had been made of wool. My mom told me many years ago, that when she checked me before she went to bed, there were sparks coming from my blanket. Then, school, college, post grad...no electric blanket. Then over 25 years ago, we got a new one....also wool. It worked really well. I think it was a sunbeam, too. I remember replacing the controls, and that was all. We had not used it in years, as we had moved to Florida 23 years ago. This winter was brutal down here. We went all winter without our electric blanket, as I thought it would warm up, eventually. It is still cold, so I bought a new blanket, this one, figuring the old, wool one, might be just too old to be safe. This new one is just so PLUSH! Almost velvety. I like that the control has a "pre warm" set up. But, that is about all with the control I like. What I don't like is that the entire dial (control) is not lit, so in the middle of the night if I wanted to change the setting, I have to play with it and guess. By then, I am wide awake. The only part that is lit is what the current setting is. Maybe if the different controls had different buttons on them, kind of like braille, it would be better. As for the blanket. It is very comfy and warms well. The only, and main thing is, I find the queen size, which I have for our queen bed, is just too small. It fits on the bed just fine, but, when my large husband turns over, my side goes with him, and I end up cold (looking to change the control setting...) The coils go just to the edge of the bed. The blanket extends about another 10 inches past that, so even when he pulls the coiled part off me, I end up with very little of any of the blanket. A suggestion would be to buy a blanket one size larger...in my case, a king. I would return my queen for a king, but, unfortunately, the boxes went out with recycling. So, hopefully, my husband will learn not to take all the blanket when he turns over (or, get used to my taking my share back!)I will still give it 5 stars. I love it. (There is no mention, anywhere, advising whether or not you can actually sit on the blanket, or, lie on top of it, like, if the bed was already made.)October, 2018...I am adding this to my review. For the warmer months, I took the blanket off the bed, leaving the control plugged in but not in use (as it was in a poor position on the wall to plug in. I had always done this with our other electric blankets). One day, end of September, I noticed my husband's side blinking "F2". I pushed all the buttons to get it to turn off. It kept flashing the "F2" Looked at my control, which was off...blank. I pushed a button just to see what would happen. It, too, began to flash "F2", and not be able to turn it off. I Googled what "F2" meant and I found that it meant there was an electrical problem and to unplug it as it might cause a fire! I thought of the wall outlet, so plugged the control into another outlet on the other side of the house. It still flashed "F2". So now, I will have to contact Sunbeam to see what they will do, as it has a 5 year warranty.Just called Sunbeam. Given instructions on how to "reset" the control. Will try that and see if it works. If not, I will be back, here. Going to need it, soon, so, hope it works! 5Sometimes you get what you pay for and that's not a bad thing!I had no choice but to buy this electric blanket because the one that I had previously purchased on Amazon and have given a high rating has a serious glitch. Read my review on that electric blanket and you will see what I mean. That electric blanket is really expensive but it stops working after 6 months. This has been one of the coldest winter ever and imagine how mad I was when my other blanket stopped working on one side. I had to go Walmart on an emergency trip and of course they had no electric blankets. They were SOLD OUT. Seems everyone was thinking like I was. Use electric blanket, turn the heat down in the house thereby saving $$$.I went on Amazon and was hesitant to buy any electric blankets from them but I had no choice. I was freezing. I finally decided on Sunbeam as it is a recognized brand, the price was reasonable (not as expensive as my last one but of course this one is not as heavy as the other) and I love green.I read some reviews but I was not too concerned as I am of the mind that what works for one person, may not work for another. There could be reasons why. The blanket came quick. Thanks to Prime. The first couple of days that I used it, I will admit to being disappointed. It was not as warm even though I had put the setting to the highest. My first thought was to return the blanket to Amazon but I was reluctant to do so since it has been quite the winter.I am glad that I stuck it out. This little baby just needed a few days to start working at full capacity. After about a week I noticed that the blanket was warm and consistent with the setting that I selected. I also like that this blanket has the auto power off button and a stay on button, should I choose to use it. The other blanket automatically turns off after 10 hours so during the weekends when I slept in late, I would wake up to a cold bed. I have used this blanket straight for 3 months without hardly ever turning it off and it still works. My other blanket turned off every day automatically after 10 hours but did not last past 6 months (this happened with 2 of these blankets). The reason for the 4 star review is that I do agree with some reviewers who said this blanket is not as sturdy aka thick and that it pills easily. However, as long as it heats my bed, I am happy. I am giddy because it seems like this is the first electric blanket that will last two winters. 4Don't buy!We have bought 5 Sunbeam electric blankets. None of them lasted for more than a few months. Their customer service is awful! My wife called 4 times trying to get a replacement. The first 2 times, she waded through a 45 minute phone tree only to be told they were too busy to respond! The third time, her cordless phone battery ran down. The last time she used her cell phone on a charger. After almost an hour she was able to order a replacement blanket after dealing with a rep in the Philippines who spoke very little English. I emailed twice and it took a month to get an answer that was useless. We will never again buy a Sunbeam product. 1Highly Non-RecommendedVery disappointing purchase from an iconic American company. This blanket worked properly for about three weeks, then the primary heating side stopped working. I wrote to the Amazon retailer who referred me to Sunbeam's customer service department. For a week I called that department, and after going through a five-minute menu prompt, received a recording that they were unable to take the call and try again later. That happened about five times. I finally reached a person and was told that they would send me a shipping label, and I could then send the blanket to them and they would repair or replace it - with a three-week turnaround. That is completely unacceptable, but even talking to a supervisor did not get me any better offer.I can't recommend this blanket, even if it worked properly and hadn't broken, or even if the customer service had been exemplary. Why? Because it is cheaply made. Small holes developed inexplicably (which may explain why one side broke), but worse, it never set properly on the bed, because it is actually two thin blankets, with the heating elements in between, and sewn together along the edges. There is no connection between the top and bottom layers except by the edges. The result is that the top half, or the bottom half, is always shifting, and balling up in one area or another. It did not look good and did not feel good. Shame on Sunbeam for their poor quality and unacceptable customer service. 2SPARKS WERE FLYING !!!I originally gave this a 4 star review... I LOVED this blanket ! Until last night, when SPARKS started coming out of it !! I thought I was crazy at first...dreaming maybe...but nope...sparks were flying out of one side of my blanket, and it was terrifying. Little sparks of light all along the wires along one side of my queen size blanket. I unplugged it asap, and removed it from my bed. At 4 months old, there is no reason this should have occured. I've not done anything to have caused this !!Please, be careful and watch for this if you purchase this blanket. I've used electric blankets all my life, and this has never happened before. 1I recommend avoiding the plush / velvety finish blankets unless you like them sliding off the bed! It's a great color, so soft, and the controls are great. BUT, it gets a 1 star because it slides off the bed every night! We have 3 layers on the bed: a sheet, this blanket and a quilt on top. The sheet stays pretty much where it's supposed to while this blanket travels across to be half on the floor and half on the bed. The quilt mostly stays in place but sometimes moves some too. After having this for almost a year, I just want to get rid of it. It's so frustrating and such a waste of money. 1Beautiful but SlipperyThis is the most frustrating blanket I've ever had. The fabric is nice and soft and luxurious. However, it is extremely slippery and I wrestle it all night long to keep it on the bed and on top of the sheet. The heating controls are the best I've ever had on a blanket. Pre-heat is great and there are multiple heat levels up to 20 settings. If I could nail it to the mattress, this blanket would be my ideal. 2Had to buy super early to ship to Alaska for ChristmasBought this as a gift. Had to buy super early to ship to Alaska for Christmas. Used it for three days before a huge rip appeared... Not very happy about that. It apparently works just fine but it shouldn't have torn so easily and quickly. 3Slip 'n Slide on the bedThis blanket is attractive and soft as silk. Make that SLICK. It always slides off one side of the bed, even if only one person is using it. If the bed is occupied by two people, one ends up with no blanket if the other so much as turns over! The instructions forbid placing the cords between the mattress and box spring, which makes it impossible to tuck the foot-end of the blanket. The controls are effective and good looking, but you have to drag the blanket back to center when making the bed every day. Unfortunately, I was too busy to start using it before the limited return period ran out. (That'll teach me to assume a product is what I expected!) I would not buy it again, nor recommend it to a friend. 2
