Works great but it s overpricedWorks great but it s overpriced. After using it for about a week I started to realize how silly this thing is. Both containers are extremely tiny. I use the whole thing for recycling. I can t imagine anyone use this thing for both in a kitchen. I would have to empty every day, maybe even twice a day if that was the case. Great idea but it needs to be bigger. You put in about 10 water bottles and it s full. 4Shhhh... It'll be our secret...Perhaps my darkest secret is the fact that I paid this much for a garbage can. What does that say about me as a person? While I have no terrifying deeds in my past, the fact that I would pay this much for a garbage can, means my judgement is probably questionable. WHATEVER! This can is absolutely amazing! It's a smooth operator that puts my old rubbermaid to shame. I feed it mostly recyclables, and the smaller trash compartment is perfect for us and our small space. While the manufacturer recommends using their bags, I can't justify the cost. I know, "you already spent a million dollars on the can", but I may be crazy, but I'm no lunatic. Costco 13 gallon bags work just fine. Alright, I want to be honest with you... I used a $100 dollar gift card that I got for my 40th birthday from my mother. There, I said it. Do I feel better? Not really. You know you are old when use a gift card on a garbage can. PRIORITIES! 5Simple, classy and functionalThis was EXACTLY what I was looking for. My kitchen is small so my trashcan was going to be visible. This is the perfect size and it looks classy. At first, I was worried that the garbage side would be too small but that hasn't been the case. I use the recyclable side the most and it is the larger of the two sides, so it works out great. I did not want an electronic gadget so I didn't get the kind that has a sensor. I know people with that kind of trashcan and the sensors seem to wear out. This is simple and functional and I am very happy with my purchase. It might be too small for a big family but it is perfect for my small one. 5worth itI had been living with two $10 trash cans in my kitchen, one for trash and the other for recycling. So working myself up to this purchase took a lot. I'm not sorry I took the plunge. This looks 1000% times better. Getting the bags in and out is easy. I use the larger side for recycling and I dump that less than once a week. The smaller side fills up with trash pretty quickly, but not before I should dump it due to odor anyway.My only complaint is that the non-transparent bags for the smaller side that come with the unit aren't available for purchase. That's weird, but I live with the see-through bags for my trash. And those aren't too pricey when purchased in bulk via amazon. 5Perfect sized refuse and recycling containers!Perfect size that I was looking for. The other receptacles had too large of containers for both refuse and recycle. I was in search for months both in store and online as I am just that particular. Finally, I found this gem that had a decent sized refuse container (30L) and a smaller recycling bin (16L) totaling 46L combined sized. It's a bit pricey I must say, however it looks great in the kitchen and is exactly what I was in search for! Great job simplehuman! 5Pricey but worth the money!This is a nicely built bin. Easy to clean. The trash bin seems small but is long. For the amount of trash I dispose of, it's perfect for me. It provides sample bags which was a plus. There is also a small latch that keeps the lid open. Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase. 5Extraordinary attention to detail, very high qualityYou quickly realize, the culture at this company is to pay attention to detail and assure high quality. While each item seems minor, it all adds up: shipping box with full graphics, great packaging material, lid can be left open or allowed to close with foot pedal (I prefer it open for quick access and reduce odors), your choice of stainless or plastic lid (I preferred black plastic in order to avoid finger prints and assure durability), holes at the top of each of the two bins to better secure the liners, holes at the bottom of each of the two bins to allow air flow, small stickers aside each bin with the Simple Human bag size for that bin, and on and on. I added to the inside of the open lid stickers I separately purchased from Amazon to show which side is for Trash and which is for Recycle, for the benefit of visitors.Like others, I find that the 30-inch kitchen trash bags from club stores work fine in both bins, although I also sometimes use the bags Simple Human makes for these purposes. Highly recommend. 5Perfect for the single person (or maybe a couple)If you have don't have space for both a full size garbage and a full size recycle bin, this is a very elegant solution! As all the reviews mention, the smaller of the two bins is an obvious choice for waste and it has a small opening at the top (full depth of course, just like the large bin) ... so it does fill up quickly. But like I said, if you only have one spot that the waste and recycle can go, this is a good solution for a SINGLE person or possibly a couple. Any more people and it would require emptying too often to be practical.The custom bags are a nice heavy weight bags sold by simplehuman, but I plan to reuse them as liners instead of bags (dumping the trash / recycling from the bin into the respective trash / recycling cans) so I won't be going through them too fast and therefore don't mind the cost associated with them.Like other reviews, mine arrived with a dent -- actually a bulge -- caused by the bins swinging within the stainless steel enclosure during shipping and striking the side. Its small enough, that I figured I would live with it instead of the hassle of returning it and hoping the next one doesn't suffer the same feat. NOTE TO THE MANUFACTURER -- WRAPPING THE BOTTOM OF THE BIN WITH BUBBLE WRAP ISN'T SOLVING THIS PROBLEM ... NEED CARDBOARD OR SOMETHING TO PREVENT THE BINS FROM SWINGING/MOVING DURING SHIPPING! 4It s a keeper.Never paid this much for a garbage can but have no regrets. Works perfectly for my household. I live alone and most of my trash gets recycled so I use the larger bin for recycling and the small bin for garbage. Item arrived in perfect condition. Have had for several months now, no issues to date. Love being able to open the lid hands free, soft close feature a wonderful bonus. 5Not practical. Too expensive.Two stars because I m a few months into owning this product. I wish I could give five stars for the quality!! But in the end, the size for the price is totally impractical.Here is why: I use this can for the main kitchen trash of a family of three and the two parents work and the child is in school. Needless to say we are super busy and there is a mix of quick dinner nights and full-on wholesome homemade dinners with a lot of prep in the kitchen. We recycle a lot. We drink beer occasionally. We have water bottles occasionally and never soda. We have the usual junk mail that goes right into the recycle. We have coffee grounds that go into the trash everyday.All that said, we have a decent amount of daily trash and recycle, but I would say a typical amount of both m for a working/school family of three.The can just doesn t work for us. Its compartments are way too small, the lifting out the inner cans is awkward and the bags are expensive and ridiculous so we bought regular ones. Either bag type is wrangled and weird so it s difficult to make it work. We chose to have the recycling in the larger compartment but that left zero space for trash. If you put in trash on the small side, you ll be taking out the trash everyday. Likewise if you switch the sides. My husband says the small side would be perfect for compost, but then you would have the awkwardness of the bags and pulling out the insert.We have grown to loathe this trash can. Especially since we paid around $140 for it. It makes me kind of sick thinking about the price. The quality is really top notch however.My recommendation is that this can is NOT your main trash, especially if you are a three person family or larger.Sadly, I am considering making it the laundry or downstairs kitchen trash bag. Oh well. I hope you have better luck. 2
