i really wanted to love this pizza cutteri really wanted to love this pizza cutter. its a very sharp blade and a great size. the problem is that it rips off all the cheese. i make alot of homemade pizza. it tears the cheese right off of pepperoni and mushroom, cheese, and bbq chicken. so what i've started to do is to gently cut the pizza with a small knife just to break through the cheese. then i use this cutter to make the large cross cuts to separate the dough through the crust to the cutting board. perhaps this works better with store-bought pizza 4Dull edge, requires flat surface to workI bought this pizza cutter with visions of me effortlessly cutting pizzas like the "pros" do at the pizzerias, but those dreams were shattered the moment I tried to use it.As others have shared, the edge isn't nearly sharp enough to cut most pizza crusts, and the rounded metal handle is not centered over the edge--it's to one side--which makes it awkward to hold upright. It's also not large enough to cut a pie that's larger than about 12". For my first experience, I ended up with a mauled pizza, a stainless steel cutter with cheese and sauce all over it, and me feeling regretful for spending ten bucks on the thing. And if you don't wash it clean right away, you'll spend many minutes later trying to remove the cheese.My biggest disappointment is not so much a problem with this particular product as it is a realization about these type of cutters in general. I tried to cut a small pizza on a dinner plate, and I realized that these cutters need a perfectly flat surface to work effectively. Plates have an edge that slants upward, and when you try to cut a pizza on this surface the ends of the cutter touch the edges of the plate and you cannot get down to the middle of the pie.My strong advice is to spend the money on a good wheel-type pizza cutter. You can cut any size pizza with one of them, on any surface, and cleanup is easier, in my opinion. 2It does it's jobI typically use a chef's knife for cutting pizzas, but the length of the knife was usually a bit too short and required some extra cuts. One day I thought, "This is unacceptable! I'm going to buy a pizza cutter."Well, now I have a pizza cutter... It works as designed, probably would work better if I sharpened the blade. If you make multiple pizzas at once, or just really think you need a pizza cutter, you could do worse than this one. I've found I prefer my chef's knife. 35 stars would have been a better review. It IS a good productMAYBE 3.5 stars would have been a better review. It IS a good product, but gives you a couple "I wish"es.First, I WISH it came with sharp edge. Some reviews I read said this thing was "sharp". Other complained it's dull. I agree that it's dull, BUT it's a fine enough edge so that if you have a crispier crust it slices better because it's more of a "controlled break", as opposed to a proper cut. Softer crusts require several passes to get a clean separation. I plan to get a knife sharpener to see if I can get some clearer cuts - although I'm NOT sure how well the material will hold an edge.Second, the blade is 12'' (as advertised), but I didn't really think of what this meant. If you make a small to med pizza, it's great. A large to XL pizzas are too large to cut clear across in one pass. It also is great for things OTHER than pizza (ie - hot/cold sandwiches, ect...)Third, this thing is (overall) made of a lighter material than I imagined. Lack of weight adds to the mussel grease you have to put in to make your cuts. Not that cutting a slice of pizza is very taxing, but the idea with this project is ease.Overall, I enjoy it. For <$10, it's pretty good. I hope it will sharpen. (I'll follow up on this, at that time.) 4Favorite pizza cutterI'm a huge stickler for cleanliness and was unhappy with typical wheel pizza cutters that would miraculously still come up with a crumb in the wheel, or get stiff. I know there are more whimsical versions of wheel cutters and many of the brands have made great strides in the quality they offer from what my mom had, but I just end up preferring the rocker cutter. Leverage is easier for me (especially since I'm short, the wheel cutter required longer time at the awkward angle) and it makes worrying about a straight line something of the past. It's obviously a little more of a challenge if you are cramped for drawer space or tend to order the most gigantic of pizzas, but it would still work for larger pizzas.I purchased my own cutter from a store but this is a gift for someone who used mine and was impressed. 5no more sloppy cutsAlthough this is not the monster rocker pizza cutter i remember the deli lady slicing pizza in winn dixe deli as a young kid, this cutter gets it done!if you are a pizza eater this easy to clean, sturdy,stainless cutter should have a place in your kitchen no more sloppy cuts from roller type cutters that cheese and toppings stick too and get dragged to other side of pizza. the key to using this utensil is to bare down on it and rock it!BOTTOM LINE----- YES IT IS JUST A PIECE OF SIX INCH STAINLESS WITH ABOUT A TWO INCH ROLL FOR THE HANDLE BUT SINCE I DON'T HAVE MEANS TO A MACHINE SHOP AND FOR THE PRICE OF 16 BUCKS IT'S A MUST HAVE FOR CLEAN CUTS TO THE PIE! 5Much better than a pizza wheelThis was a gift for my daughter. who makes pizza about three times a month. No more pizza wheel that moves the toppings around when slicing through a pizza. One or two passes and the first cut is done. 5GREAT PIZZA CUTTERWe really love this cutter, does a great job of cutting pizza without "pushing" toppings around like a roller cutter does. The rolled handle is comfortable to use, the edge cuts easily. This cutter is built well, it is made from heavy weight stainless steel that does not flex at all when using it and built to last, and it is easy to clean.The only drawback is finding a place to store it as it is almost 14 inches long and 4 inches tall, we just leave our on the back side of our dish rack ( which is stainless also so it blends right in, so much we forget it is there ) trying to store this in a drawer might be a problem. After using this for a while I wonder why I didn't get one earlier, it make cutting your pies so much easier. 4This works great and it is very easy to clean.I absolutely love this pizza cutter.I got this because I get frustrated using a circular cutter or a knife. Continue to do that until your whole pizza is in the size of slices that you want. 5The best tool to cut a pizzaI bought this as a gift for my pizza-loving daughter to make cutting and serving pizza simple and easy. It is a single sheet of metal with one side rolled into a handle. The edge is sharp enough to cut pizza but dull enough so it won't cut your finger or the cutting board. It has good balance and a simple rocking action cut cleanly through thick and thin pizza. I bought the Calphalon Nonstick Bake-ware Pizza Pan to bake pizza to a crispy crust and the Mr. Pizza 08215MPA serving board to cut it on. Frozen and fresh pizza cook great on the nonstick pan and and slides right off onto the Mr. Pizza cutting board. I wanted the board so I wouldn't scratch the nonstick pan with the pizza cutter. They work great together for baking, slicing and serving all kinds of pizzas.Together, the three simple tools turn cooking, cutting and serving pizza into a professional experience. Presented together as a gift, they are a great luxury item. No more making a mess with a rolling pizza wheel and I get eight identical slices. 5
