    You may think the idea of a pancake spatula is silly, until you try it (can be used on non-pancake foods too)I bought this spatula for my boyfriend kind of as a joke because he loves pancakes, but I thought the idea of a pancake spatula was kind of ridiculous. Lo and behold, we actually use this thing quite a bit. It actually works great for large things such as pancakes, although not as great if the thing you are flipping is heavy. The metal on the handle doesn't hold up as well to heavier things, but can easily be bent back into shape. As with any OXO product, it's very ergonomic and the silicone is soft on the handle, but firm enough on the spatula itself to not bend. It's too soft if you're trying to scrape up stuck on bits at the bottom of a pot, for example. I'm surprised but pleased by this spatula and it has saved us while cooking numerous times. 4Has a spatula ever been this exciting?We had several spatulas that over the years of use had started to melt in places. I figured it was time to ditch the old melty warped spatulas that you get on the cheap at Walmart and get something that can handle much higher temps without fearing that I might get some chunks of melted plastic on my burger. I fired up the trust Amazon engine and went searching for burger flippers that can withstand high heat and this was the one that stood out.It's hard to tell in the photos, but the metal extends from the handle almost all the way to the tip of of the big flipping end (I am sure there is a technical term for it, but I am not a professional chef with a day time TV show so I am sticking with big flipping end). It's somewhat flexible for metal but doesn't feel like it will bend out of shape. I suspect some sort of Hogwarts trickery was used to accomplish this magical feat. 5OXO Comes Through Again With Another Great Product!I've always been satisfied with the smart design of OXO products. As someone else wrote previously, this company really seems to have real cooks involved in its product design. It works great in both my 10" and 12" non-stick pans. (it is a little big for my 8" pan, but OXO also makes a narrower silicone spatula for the smaller pan). Being heat resistant to 600F/315C, I think my days of regularly melting my old plastic flippers is finally done, and I can feel good with the silicone not leaking weird plastic chemicals into my food. Addtionally, new studies show that plastic flippers can microscratch even the supposedly superhard ceramic non-stick coatings, leading to degradation of how well the pans work. Its silicone for me from now on. Pleased with this and other recent OXO purchases.Update 6 months into purchase:I still 5 star all my OXO silicone spatulas (I have the full series from small to large now). Nothing has melted, they clean easily, and do the job constantly. That's a good product. As a note, I use these silicone products with my stainless and ceramic pans. I don't use it for my griddle or cast iron pans, as those formats of pans are too abusive on silicone spatulas over time. I also hand wash these nearly immediately as I can after cooking.. All my OXO have remained in virtually new condition, and I would recommend and buy them again if you want well thought out products built for cooks who want good results (even for old guys like me upgrading my skills by finding better tools).. 5Update after 6 weeks of useI have to update my review. I still LOVE the spatula. it is absolutely perfect for my needs; HOWEVER, after about 6 weeks of use, the plastic has split and the metal is coming through. It is a bit expensive to only last for 6 weeks. Wish I knew how to contact the manufacturer.I have a really hard time understanding the bad reviews. Yes, it is big. The dimensions are given in the description. Even though it is large, I can use it in all but my very smallest skillet (one egg size).I love it. I have only had it a few weeks, but I have used it at least a dozen times - omelettes, chicken, vegetables. It has not stuck to anything; in fact, nothing has really stuck to it either (except maybe uncooked egg). Today, I went back and forth, using it in my electric skillet and in my frying pan on the stove. The breaded squash did not stick to it. I LIKE the large size. It makes it so much easier and faster to turn frying foods. It is slightly flexible - it needs to be. But it is not so flexible that it bends down. The front edge is very thin, making it easier to slide under foods. Thanks to it being heat resistant, I can leave it in the pan while cooking. So far, I have found nothing to dislike about it. I may even order another one. 2Somewhat disapointedI have mixed feelings here about this product. I decided to pay the extra cost for two reasons, first because I respect the oxo brand name for high end quality in the superior materials used and overall high end qualityand because I finally decided to purchase what I thought a better than average pancake turner- in those regards I was not disappointed. Second, it was because I wanted a better than average pancake turner for superior functionality. I was let down in that regard. The edge of the turner doesn't seems to be flat enough for it's first pancake flip following pouring the batter into the pan. No matter how long you let the batter cook, when its time to flip the pancake the edge of the turner "butts" against the side of the pancake and it has a difficult time sliding in underneath the pancake. What you usually get is a folded and wrinkled mess that doesn't look like anything resembling a flat pancake. If I could return it, I would. 2Heat resistant to 600 degrees!? SCORE!!!This is the second one I've bought! It's perfect size makes it ideal for not only pancakes, but also omelettes, stir-fry, cooking veggies, even lifting multiple cookies from the cookie sheet, and everything in-between. The only reason I first bought it was due to the heat resistance temperature limit of 600 degrees and safe for non-stick cookware... can't find anything that goes above 400 degrees, and I have a minimum expectation of 450 (also very difficult to find). So this was an excellent find. **Do note: the silicone spatula is high heat resistant, the handle is very much not. ;) 5I am sold on OXO !My husband was always complaining about how the food always stick to my other spatulas so thought I would splurge and try Oxo silicone? Not sorry one bit I am defiantly sold on them! Best spatulas ever ! Food does not stick at all,. My other utensils food always sticks to them and are hard to clean especially in the holes (eggs where like glue to clean out) these are very easy to clean. All my other spatulas are gone. Thank you OXO !!!! 5it is great for turning pancakesThis is a large and flexible turner, just as described. It is great for turning pancakes. It is flexible enough It is definitely big, but a bit cumbersome when you have more than one pancake on a pan. Since the turner is SOOOO large its hard to maneuver it if there is other food nearby. You need some good space to be able to flex the turner and get it under something. I was hoping I could use this for things other than pancakes, but i think this is just too large. Another issue might be for some is storage space. Since this is so large you need a good amount either in a drawer or utensil cup. I think if you need a spatula for turning larger pancakes this is great. But if you tend to make smaller pancakes or want to use this for multiple uses this may not be for you. 4Great spatula!!!This is our favorite spatula for pretty much everything. We use this for pancakes and eggs for the most part. This is actually the replacement to my old OXO Good Grips Silicone Flexible Pancake Spatula. The silicone on one of the corners after a very long time (probably 2 years or more) was worn and broke off. My husband probably used the corner to break up the ground beef too many times. Will definitely buy again. :D 5USELESS for pancakesBought this specifically for pancakes. Here are the issues:1. If you're using a non-stick surface for pancakes (like I do), you want something that has a super thin blade so that you can get under the cake. This thing is great for nudging pancakes all over the griddle but unless you have a massive, heavy pancake, it wont get under there for the flip.2. Rubber? Seriously? I want a non-stick, smooth, slippery surface for pancake flipping. 1
