Customer Reviews

Solving the water getting under the mat issue I found this mat was large enough and fit perfectly beside the sink to hold dishes that had just been washed until I could get around to drying them and putting them away. I noticed that when I lifted the mat up there was always water underneath it, so it became just another thing to deal with having to dry the underside of the mat and counter every time. I figured water was somehow getting underneath the mat being splashed from the sink or when the dishes were transferred to it. So then I just started placing the mat so that it hangs over the edge of where the sink meets the countertop just slightly (I have an undermount sink). Now the mat stays dry underneath. There is still some maintenance with these things as the water in the channels doesn't dry up on its own, so I occasionally shake it out. Overall I find it to be much better and easier to clean than a traditional dish rack. 5Worth the money I love this thing. It looks good and does its job. I'm skeptical this drying mat could grow mold in any kitchen cleaned more than once a year. I honestly probably only wash this thing in the sink like once every couple months, and I've never had it grow anything despite the fact that my husband likes to only rinse his cups then put them on here and it doesn't get much natural light. The only thing I do is wipe up any spills that manage to get underneath, and it's fine. 5Great for what it is After reading reviews - yes, for a drying mat, I chose this one. It seemed to make the most sense. Using a cloth one would trap moisture in glasses or anything set upside down. In my new kitchen, I put one of the long, rectangular sinks in (farm sink?) therefore did not want some hideous dish rack sitting on my counter. Yes, I know they make nicer looking SS ones, but still. So I use this instead. While it isn't perfect (you can only fit so much on it, so difficult for larger pieces), it think it's great for what it is. Once everything is dry, I pick up the mat and pour any residual water in the grooves out. I also wash it once a week or so, because something that gets wet that often will eventually get scummy. But I like it and would buy it again. 5Floppy, yet does the job Can't give a 5-star because for some reason I thought this mat would be stiff and not so floppity doppity (see picture). The floppiness also makes it slightly difficult to clean. Saw reviews about how it can double as a plate to hold hot items, however, since there's no support in the silicone mat at all, one would need to place the whole mat on something sturdy first, then carry it around. This mat has replaced the many paper towels left on counter to dry large items and now we don't need to do that! Like how the mat is ribbed so that even if you place a bowl flush atop the mat, there's still air that can circulate beneath so the inside dries too (unlike the case with the paper towels we had sitting out).*addendum: also think items should not be dripping when placed on these mats because it doesn't allow drying of items well when you sit it flush on the mat. Despite the crevices embedded into the mat, it's not enough air circulation and I still see moisture the next morning on the bottom of mugs/bowls, pots etc. best to just lay things in a way so that air can circulate all around. Also, water doesn't easily evaporate from the mat either and requires shaking off from time to time. However, I like how it's ribbed and it's made of silicone to act as friction against fragile items that I feel would otherwise slip right off when I lean them at an angle on the mats. All in all, it's made a good spot for a secondary drying station after my conventional dish drying rack. 4Well made and useful at a very good pricepoint Perfect size for the sink area because it doesn't take up a lot of space. Very flexible, does not smell out of the box, has a very clean feel to it. The grooves are nice and deep allowing for air to circulate under wet items. The groove around the perimeter keeps excess water from flowing onto the counter. Seems to dry quickly. Rolling it up for storage is a breeze. Can be used for multiple uses anywhere around in and out of the house. Glad I got it and would not hesitate to purchase another. Highly recommended 5Excellent size and product - I bought two of them. This review is NOT about using this product as intended. The short answer to that, is that it holds a lot of water and performs as expected. I have used it to drip-dry a couple of wine glasses and it performed well. (as expected)However, I bought this drying mat to multi-task in different areas of the kitchen with different purposes. What I like about this product:Size: good size to protect table/counter top from hot plates/pots.Design: ridges and flat reversible surface for different purposes.Pros and Uses:Using the flat surface: Keeps the bread machine in place, preventing the Breadman from "walking-off" the counter during some vigorous exercise.Cast iron cookware (hot or cold) won't damage brand new granite counter tops.Ridge Surface:Thawing out food on counter: Catches all the melted ice/water.Used as a spoon holder in a pinch, holds all the sauce/gravy.Used regularly to place pressure cooker and pots/pan lids on it. It catches all the hot liquid dripping from the lid and gives me a safe place to put the lid without having to worry about cleaning counters or hot liquid running off the sides onto the cabinets.Used to hold screws and nails in place (no rolling around, easy to find) during kitchen remodel. Also great to keep hammers, drills, screw drivers, etc. It provides a nice cushion and prevents accidental chipping.Cleaning:Easy as pie. A bit of dish soap, rinse, shake and store.Does not discolor no matter what type of sauce you spill on it.*there is a hole on the mat that allows you to store vertically/hang on hook somewhere.Cons:Only one color. Wish it came in different colors. The price is a bit steep.Would like an accurate rating on how many degrees it can handle. Most people will do fine setting pots/pans that have been baking at 375 degrees. However, Using the Alton-Brown method for cooking rib eye steak in cast iron at 500 degrees may be too much. (I simply put the pan back on the stove's iron grates)Wish list if OXO Good Grips is listening about future product development/enhancement:I'd like to see this product with a center-hole to use as a sink protector. I would use the ridge side down to allow water to flow.** Maybe I will buy two more and cut the hole myself. 5Love it! I love this! I used to use a fabric drying mat that I picked up at a local store. However, because it was fabric and had soft filler, things like cups would almost suction to it and slow the drying process. Also, because of that lack of air flow in an upside down object, it left an odor. In addition, those other mats can absorb odor. This mat fixes all of those problems. Because it has the bumps/slots, items still have airflow and dry better and faster. They don't sit in a damp spot because the water goes into the channels. It has a lip around the edge as well so water can't roll off onto your counter.I also like that if this gets dirty, I can just rinse and dry it without having to worry about a fabric mat that needs to be aired out. It also stays in place better, and simply looks much better on my counter. I will never go back to fabric drying mats. 5I want to like this mat because it's a good size and it's ... I want to like this mat because it's a good size and it's easy to put away. I have a command hook inside the door of my kitchen sink and I hang it there when not in use. I own a lot of oxo items that I really like so i didn't think twice to buy this. But it doesn't keep my counters dry. Somehow the water gets under the mat every time. I have hard water and black counters and I don't want to get those pesky hard water white stains on my counter which is why I bought this. Also, I feel like the ridges are not high enough, if I leave my wood cutting board or a knife on it, the next morning a part of it is still wet where it's touching the bottom of the mat. Because of this I can't leave things to air dry or I might mess up the wood or get rust on my knives. I wish I could return. 1great on top, slimy on the bottom Bought this because I hand-wash pots, pans, knives, and other non-dishwasher items, and I wanted a drying rack that wasn't ugly and took up space because it's made for dishes and glasses. This mat is *almost* perfect for what I wanted. After using it for several months, I still like it. A few reservations:- It's not huge. I'd have like it 25% bigger, but this is the biggest one I could find available.- It doesn't drain into the sink like a rack or the mat under a rack would. I'm fine with that, but that means it collects water and needs to be dumped occasionally.- Because it's silicone, the underside of it never seems to dry. In fact, it's always damp and slimy underneath when I lift it to clean or drain.Good points:- Nice grip to it. I use it to lean cutting boards and cookie sheets up against the wall to dry, and they never slip. Stays in place on my counter next to my sink.- Dishwasher safe, though I haven't needed to clean it yet.- Looks great - when I put the dried dishes away, looks like an extension of the sink.- Easily movable if you need more counter space for prep work. 4Great Vented Drying Mat & Trivet I love this mat! I bought my first in a store, but when we moved to a home with less counter space, I couldn't find another so I tried a microfiber drying mat. Those have two problems--they can build up mildew if not cared for properly and more importantly, they just weren't helping my dishes dry. The flat surface would practically seal to the rim of my stemware, and I'd find water in the glasses the next morning. The ribbed Oxo mat allows venting that, when glasses are rinsed with hot water, dry fairly quickly. My only concerns with the Oxo mat are:* You do need to regularly wipe underneath the mat and the mat's underside. I have granite countertops, so this is important for both the life of my counter and to reduce microbial build-up. I do this at least every time I put away the dishes. I also use my Granite cleaner weekly in the same spot and let it dry fully before replacing the mat.* Water in the wells usually needs to be shaken out before the mat will dry.* Be careful when placing flutes; make sure to balance them along the ribs.* The mats are a bit small, so you may need more than one. But that also means you get to have them in two different places...which is nice.I use this mat:* Everyday for non-dishwasher pots/pans, knives, crystal stemware, & glasses* To place hot cast iron lids on while cooking* To place very warm pots from stoveI use this mat BECAUSE:* It takes less room & commitment than a permanent dish rack* Dries dishes, especially glasses, better than microfiber mats* It is easy to clean* It doubles as a trivet 5
