Disappointing for Mom My 2 year old really likes them. I was disappointed though. Many major countries are nearly impossible to see. I had to use a magnifying glass. The planet Earth is odd colors. The human body chart is missing the lymphatic system. A few more things as well. For a 2 year old, it's fine. I wouldn't recommend it past 5. It wasn't anti slip either. 3The non-skid backing is nice touch, the mats do not move even with ... These have been a big hit with my 4-year-old. The non-skid backing is nice touch, the mats do not move even with all of my son's squirming. The solar system mat is the early favorite. We use it to ask questions like, "Which planet is closest to the sun?" "Which planets start with the letter M?" I've noticed that he's gotten more interested in his space-themed books after studying the mat.The US map has been fun for him, discussing where various relatives live, where we'll go for vacation, etc. Although he can't remember the state names, he can point to the parts of the map when asked questions like, "Where was Mommy born?", thanks to the pictures for each state.Earlier reviews mentioned a misspelling of "Arctic", but I was pleased to see this has been resolved. 5Fantastic placemats educational and fun. Many uses. I bought these for my two-year-old granddaughter because I use them in an educational manner. You can see how I do that in my video. I like these particular ones because they are durable and I can clean them before she eats. They are very easy to clean using a wipe or a cloth. The back of them is fantastic because it does not move around on the table (unlike most educational placemats). They are also good for using with modeling clay or crafts. These would be a great gift for anyone with a child or special needs adult! 5Awesome!! I was really hesitant about ordering these. I had an older version of a laminated placemat (different company) that slid around and wasn't big enough. It caused more frustration than anything. We homeschool and have a hand built table in our kitchen.The size is perfect for both my kids, ages 6 and 10 yrs old. The materials on the Explorer sets work great for both ages as well. The mats don't slide around and wipe down easily. I definitely recommend 5Cute, educational, easy to clean, bright colors, anti-slip on back. These have been great conversation starters for our four year old and the fam at dinner time. We've been playing games, like, Which sense would you use to find stinky cheese? etc. He's not a reader yet, so, while some of the text is very small on the global map, it's not really an issue. These are a great intro to geography as a concept. And, they look nice on the table and wipe down easily. They have sticky-ish rubber dots all over the back, so, they're non-slip on the table. A very important feature! I'd get another set in a different theme as his interests evolve. 4Cute, practical, overpriced. These mats are almost exactly what I was looking for. The mats I purchased before had no non slip backing. These mats can still slide but I m no longer worried about an errant elbow dashing a meal to the floor. The mats are also bright with good quality printing on educational topics. We have gotten compliments on them from everyone who has seen them. They are cute and practical which is always a win for me.I gave this review 4 stars simply because of the price. I don t think it makes sense. They are still ... placemats. Even though I love them it s the kind of product that I ll likely search for an agreeable alternative rather than to pay $20 for 4 mats. That s just me though. 4Had food all over them when I opened the box The overall quality of the item is fine. And that is the only reason it got more than one star. These mats clearly came used. There was food smeared all over them and they were disgusting.If I pay $22 for something, it should not come in such a gross state. I feel bad for my daughter who was excited to use these right out of the box.Nasty. 2Awesome and educational placemats These placemats are so awesome!! I initially bought them for the US map to show my daughter different states, as we have friends and family living throughout the US. She was asking a lot questions about where certain people live and I wanted a nice visual for her to reference. I wanted something smaller & not too big. I love how the the state map shows icons that are relevant to each state, i.e. Georgia has a peach, and so on.These are so great at mealtime! First off, they're educational, great design with colors and easy to read, and my four year old daughter is thoroughly enjoying these! She already knows all of the planets from practicing at mealtime. Mealtimes for parents can be annoying and frustrating, but these help to make it more fun.Second, they are a great quality--easy to wipe clean and have a rubber backing so they stay put on that table (nice feature!) I highly recommend these!! 5Well made, great designs, questionable accuracy Love the designs and durability. Some changes could make them awesome: The capitals are in the wrong place in some states ... seems just as easy to locate them accurately. The planets are odd colors ... again, it seems just as easy to make those more indicative of the planet. (earth is purple and blue, for example). A lot of the text is so tiny on the world map that it s illegible with the coating. Overall, a great choice. 3Disappointed with the educational elements I'm actually disappointed with these. They seemed so cute, but they're not great educationally. I do like their "function" as non-slip place mats, but their educational aspects are lacking. The planets are not to scale, the body parts don't seem to be either, the world map is lackluster, and US map has really strange images on each state.I wanted to like them! We will still use them because, as I said, they're functional, but I wish they were cuter and had better material printed. 2
