Description

  • The original Lodge Camp Dutch Oven does it all - and it's been everywhere. A flanged lid holds hot coals and flips over for griddling, while the legs keep the oven at an ideal distance from hot coals. Includes Camp Dutch Oven Cooking 101 cookbook.
  • PRE-SEASONED COOKWARE. A good seasoning makes all the difference. Lodge provides pre-seasoned cookware with no synthetic chemicals; just soy based vegetable oil. The more you use your iron, the better the seasoning becomes.
  • MADE IN THE USA. Lodge has been making cast iron cookware in South Pittsburg, Tennessee (pop. 3,300) since 1896. With over 120 years of experience, their cast iron is known for its high quality design, lifetime durability, and cooking versatility.
  • CAMP COOKING 101. Lodge knows that cooking is about more than just the food; it's about the memories. Whether you're roasting a chicken in the oven, or cooking chili over the campfire, Lodge has you covered with the included Camp Dutch Oven Cooking 101 cookbook.
  • FAMILY-OWNED. Lodge is more than just a business; it's a family. The Lodge family founded the company in 1896, and they still own it today. From environmental responsibility to community development, their heads and hearts are rooted in America.

Customer Reviews

Good quality cast iron Good quality cast iron. As with all cast iron cookware the key is keeping them seasoned properly. Once seasoned you must watch how you wash them, (no dish washer, no soap, only hot water and a nylon scrubber works best for me) and re-season them after washing. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature. Cooking with cast iron will also add dietary iron to your meals. I am low in iron but cannot take iron supplements as they upset my stomach. But cooking in cast iron helps keep my iron levels up. 4Great little dutch oven. This is a great little dutch oven. After comparing reviews of other brands I'm glad I decided to go with Lodge brand. It's a nice quality, and we like the size for our family of four and it works great for cooking with. At first we didn't follow directions about the coals on top/bottom and burned some meals. But with the cookbook and coals it makes some very nice meals. 5Works Great. I like to make special dishes in the Dutch Ovens when camping with the Boy Scouts. I bought this one so I could make a Cherry Cheesecake. This product worked well and the cheesecake was very good. I also used this oven on the stove to fry chicken nuggets. 5Excellent product with unlimited value. It cooks evenly, works very well for camping and cleans easily. We've made pizza, stew biscuits and breakfast egg bakes in it already. The possibilities are endless for what you can make with a little patience and creativity.Cast iron has so much character and will last many generations if you care for it properly. 5Nice Dutch Oven I use this Dutch oven for my off the grid cooking. I have already used it twice. I did follow the advice on a cowboy cooking website and gave my new Dutch oven another seasoning as soon as it arrived. I washed it in hot water, dried it, stuck it in the oven on a cookie sheet with pot upside down and lid on top and heated it for 10 minutes on 350 degrees. After it is good and hot, I pulled it out of the oven and lightly re-seasoned it with olive oil. Back into the oven it went, in the aforementioned configuration, for 60 minutes at 350 degrees. It did come out a little sticky but very little food stuck during its first use. It is getting re-seasoned again as I write this. I don't anticipate any problems. It is best to do meals that do not include tomatoes, tomato sauce, pinto beans, and water for the first few uses. Meals with lots of oil, grease and bacon help to season the pot as you go. I read about one lady that got black teeth by eating a tomato based dish and believing what Lodge says about the thing being ready to go when it shows up on your door step--it's not. I also plan to use an aluminum liner when cooking foods that have a delicate taste and when I bake cakes. 5So excited I am so excited. I have lots of cast iron and several dutch ovens in my camping gear but needed something smaller for when I am not cooking for a big group. This is perfect. 5Using it in my fireplace With this never ending winter, and a fireplace, I decided to install a fireplace arm/crane and start cooking in it. I bought the Lodge 6 qt. I am so glad that I did !! So far I have done 2 roasts, which are wayyyyyyy better in this than my slow cooker, chicken pot pie, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken soup, which I then used the broth to make my pot pie, mac and cheese :). I flipped the lid over and made bacon, eggs, sausage, and pancakes. This item helped me really impress my new girlfriend too. ;)After its use, I clean it with hot soapy water and a brillo pad, easy work. I then coat it with a light layer of cooking oil to keep the seasoning in it.Going to buy the the smaller versions next.Stay warm ! 5One Star The inside of my cast iron pot is deeply scratched on the inside. I am returning it. 1The golden standard! This oven is a great example of why I keep buying Lodge products, the only reason I don't give five stars is because the lid didn't fit as well as some of my other ovens. I was able to swap it with the lid from my 12" Deep oven and it fit just fine. I think with time as the seasoning built up it would have corrected it self. This is great for baking biscuits, corn bread and making stews. It is a bit shallow for large pieces of meat, that is why I have the deep one, if you wanted to roast a chicken you'd have to cut it in half lengthwise and lay it flat. The factory seasoning is a good start but I add a few layers of seasoning before the first use. If you are only going to get one Dutch Oven this is the one to have! Also the prices on these items fluctuated quite a bit so i kept an eye on it and bought it when it was around $56 w/free shipping, its the best deal you can find on a new oven. 4A wonderful Way to Cook There is just something about cooking with a camp dutch oven. Don't know if it is the wonderfully even heat of cast iron, the ease of using coals, or the way things taste, but it is the best way to cook a wide variety of items. For example, if you've never baked with a Camp dutch oven you will have a great time doing it and amaze your family and friends once you get the hang of it. You see the feet? That's what makes it a "Camp" dutch oven. Many people have dutch ovens for their stove tops and they are great as well, with some even being cast iron. These however, are the type you can cook using charcoal or over a wood fire. The 12", 6 Qt Lodge Camp Dutch Oven has become one of the most common pieces to start with. You can roast/cook/bake/fry/and use it as a griddle. Once seasoned, and properly taken care of you will end up passing it down for generations.I just realized my review sounds like a advertisement, but rest assured I have not received anything from anyone in exchange for anything. It is just the way I feel. 5
