Seat is fine, but mounting hardware wasn't adequate
The seat itself seems to be fine and fits our toilet. This part gets some stars. It's pretty cheap plastic though, but it looks nice and should be functional. However, the mounting hardware provided was not adequate to properly secure the seat to the bowl. There were two plastic clips that are supposed to be used with two metal screws to secure the seat to the bowl, however the plastic clips easily strip out and do not work at all. The manufacturer should have provided metal screws and metal clips, but they cheaped out on the clips and made them plastic. We had to use our own metal 10-24 nuts and washers that we had on hand, but most people would probably have to take a trip to the hardware store to find them. Just a warning if you are buying this seat that you'll have to provide your own mounting hardware. The plastic clips provided didn't work as they kept splitting open and stripping out - poor design on the mounting hardware.
3Simple, easy, decent quality seat - Recommend
I'm a do-it-yourselfer, as well as a facilities engineer / maintenance leader, so am pretty handy in most repair things. My house has two toilets, and I got tired of one of them having a cracked seat (the pinch was the last straw). I'd installed one of these Kohler toilet seats a few weeks ago, after paying over $30 for it at the Home Desperate store. When I saw it on Amazon for quite a bit less, it was a no-brainer. Delivery was quick, and installation easy. All I needed was a medium size screwdriver. The FIRST thing I did, however, was install the little diamond-shaped bumpers on the bottom side of the lid...I didn't want to drop those into the toilet water! Then I began the seat install. Another reviewer warned of the split mounting hinge/flange, and to some point he's correct -- the split flange does separate if you overtighten the screw. You only need to snug it down, as the expanding nut (on the underside of the toilet bowl) will grab nicely. Then the caps that go over the screw head hold the split flange together so you don't have any problem of it coming loose at 2:30am. From a quality standpoint, it's a basic plastic seat -- not heavy, not cushioned, and doesn't have the "slow-close" feature. I'd give it five stars if it had all that. However, if you want an economical, functional, east-to-install seat, I recommend the Kohler K-4774-0 Brevia.
4Not so sure about this one
I wanted to match the K-4664-0 that is in my other BR because I like that one a lot and it fits my Sam's Club toilet perfectly. But, this one is the newer model. They are made of good quality materials, but I'm not so sure about the Quick-Release system. As others mentioned, the hinge system seems to be rather precarious. It takes a lot of fiddling to get it set where you want it because the hinge plastic is so flexible. I got it set and it seems secure, but we'll see. Due to the fit, it ends up just a tad longer than my 4664 which fit my other toilet perfectly. It will be OK, I guess, if it holds up. If not, Kohler is going to hear from me.
3Waste of money! Do not buy!!!
If there was a "minus star", I would have used it!! The mounts on this seat are worthless. Kohler says it's made to remove for cleaning! Who removes a toilet seat to clean it?? Their wonderful "easy removal" system would allow the seat to pop out of the mount while you're sitting on it, no matter what they say. I tried to use this with a riser for my 85 yr old mother in law and the mount failed before I got it tightened. I had to duct tape the riser and seat to the toilet until I get a new one. I would not recommend this seat to anyone because of the mounts!
1Piece of crap (no pun intended)
Total junk. The mounting hardware makes it impossible to tighten enough to keep the seat from moving around. The bolt is metal but the nut is expanding plastic (by design) that strips easily. I could marginally tighten one side but the other side was stripped from the get go.
1Entirely PLASTIC
I read reviews and then ordered two of these because after four years of light use in a new home, the Kohler toilet seats looked dirty, but upon closer inspection, the paint was worn off. No idea how that happened... must have been defective from the start. Shame on Kohler. Anyway, these arrived and I was not expecting an entirely plastic product. They simply seem cheap and flimsy to me. Returning and ordering something better.
1My current Kohler almond toilets still looked great functioned well and the color goes with my new ...
Bought 2 of these almond color plastic molded Kohler toilet seats to match my existing Kohler round almond toilets that were installed in late 80's. Upon doing some remodeling I decided to just upgrade the toilet seats and save some money. My current Kohler almond toilets still looked great functioned well and the color goes with my new decor. They matched perfectly to existing color of toilet and made the existing toilets look brand new again. Most big box stores sell bone or bisque color that does not match older almond colored fixtures from 80's and 90's. I first purchased a Bemis wood molded product in almond color, however this was poorly made and a chunk of material was already missing from the returned item purchased. For a few dollars more the molded plastic Kohler toilet seat was a much better product. The shape of the seat is a major plus. The shape confirms better to the shape of your legs and other body parts. Compare this to a cheaper seat and the difference is evident once you sit down use the product.Installation was easy and the seat fits snugly and does not wiggle or move around. The seat also comes off for east cleaning. Just lift the back bolt cover upward and the seat will pull straight off in horizontal direction. The bolt cover once snapped back in place keeps the toilet seat from coming off and retains the seat in place. Love this seat for the price paid!!!
5Poorly design bracket (see photo). Do not buy
The bracket are designed in a U shape, regardless how we tighten it down, the seats moves around. Very poorly designed and non-functional. This one is going back.
1Mounting system is awful - you will never get it tight.
Believe the other poor reviews! I thought I could just be careful and make it work - and sort of did, but I definitely regret the purchase. Now, if you are still not convinced it is an inferior product, then read on for the details...1 - The plastic nuts that are on the bottom side of the toilet strip out waaay to easily. The toilet lid was nowhere near tight enough to hold in place when one of mine stripped out (as others have complained). I got around that by re-using my mounting nuts from my old Kohler lid.2 - On the top side, where the screw is held - the mechanism is pure garbage. When you tighten down the screws, the mounting brackets spreads out and deforms (again, before the lid is even secured). I needed a second person to squeeze the plastic together while I tightened to get around this. All in all, it makes me wonder if Kohler ever actually tried this? I love the top notch quality of their actual toilets and sinks, but this lid is awful.Seriously, don't be lured into the low price thinking you are getting a deal - whatever price you pay for it is money down the toilet! See what I did there? ;)
1Love them!
We purchased these seats to replace ones that the builder had put in our house. These are light years better than those Bemis seats from a cleaning perspective alone. I personally prefer plastic over painted wood because they are way easier to clean and sanitize AND they don't get all warped if you use a cleaner with bleach. These also don't have a gap between the fasteners when the seat is up so it prevents stuff from falling into that little hard to clean area between the fasteners which is my LEAST favorite part to clean. I would highly recommend these seats.
