Customer Reviews

great for custom sized wine rack This was the perfect solution for our cabinet that we wanted to place a wine rack in. We couldn't find prebuilt racks that would fit the space without leaving a lot of empty, unused space so this was great for being able to arrange it into any size and configuration we wanted. We also stained the wood to match our furniture. Assembly is mostly easy but it does take a bit more effort if you want it perfect (we need to drive some pegs deeper to get it completely uniform and even. I'm not sure I would want to use a different kind of wine rack in the future, should I need to buy another one. 5Perfect We loved the idea that this item was produced "local" to the Northeast. The wood seems VERY durable (survived my assembly). Although I would have liked the rack to come pre-assembled, I did appreciate that you have flexibility as to how you can configure the wine rack. We left off the top tier to fit in our very hard to fit location. This worked perfectly for the space. We ordered the natural wood shade with black pegs, which looks beautiful. The sellers were very responsive via email when I had a question. I would definitely recommend this product. 5Ingeniously Simple Suppose you have a failed wine cooler that was 24 inches wide. The new one is 15 inches wide, leaving a useless 9 inch gap. Why not put in a rack for other bottles? This is a cool solution. You may be deterred by the fact that two courses of this rack are actually 9 1/2 inches wide. Won't fit? It will if you snip 1/4 inch off each round connector before assembling the rack - making it just about exactly the right size.Parts seemed to be precisely cut and assembly required only a hammer (plus the sniper). Mine fit together so tightly it is hard to imagine needing glue. 5Nice Looking Rack This product works very well at holding all 12 bottles of wine. It was very flexible for assembly in that all of the larger 'posts' have dowel holes drilled on all sides; this allowed us to assemble the rack 3 high and 4 wide. The dowels fit tight into the assembly holes and required a dead blow hammer to fully seat them in place. We rest the back of the bottle on the rear dowel and the neck of the bottle on the front dowel; this allows the bottle to tilt down in the front to keep the corks 'wet'. The wood quality was quite good and, in our case, we elected to paint the rack and then 'distress' the finish. Why the four stars rather than five you ask? After assembly there are four empty dowel holes on each corner post and two empty dowel holes on each side post. I ended up purchasing dowel plugs at a local hardware store (not a great cost) but would have thought these would have been included to provide a more 'finished' look to the rack. 4Had one of these years ago, still the best These are made very well and are very sturdy. Had one 20 years ago and got another when I was told that the counter in my new kitchen could not accept a wine refrigerator. I put one of these in my refrigerator instead as my "wine cooler". Easy to take out if I need the space, and can be configured in many ways to fit the refrigerator. I made two 6-bottle holders out of this one kit. One is for white wine in the refrigerator and one is for red wine on a low, cool, closet storage shelf. They take a bit of work to put together as the tollerances are tight, but this means that when you do set the pegs in the hexagonal rails they will all be straight and square. I recommend a rubber mallet or another piece of wood (when hammering) under and over the pieces being assembled to prevent damage to the wood. Wood is very good quality Ash, not junk. These are stainable too if you want, but I just leave mine natural or maybe hit it with some pledge or wax to make a seal for easy cleaning. You can make it tall and nattow or long and flat, or L-shaped, not just like in the picture. Assembly hint, when hammering this together, you will hear a higher pitched sound during hammering when the peg is fully seated, after a couple of pegs you will recognize the sound and know how much to hammer. 5Simple but WONDERFUL Just finished assembling this and although my wife thought it was a lot of work for me, it was pretty easy. The pegs are a bit tight (that is a real good thing) so you need a good mallet. I used a 14 inch section of a wheelbarrow handle I cut off and use where I need to pound wooden things without marring them. I also have a nice workbench to place the assembly on to insure it is flat and even all the way. I found that it is easiest to assemble all the horizontal tiers first then just peg them together vertically one tier on top of the other. You can insure they are nice and even by checking them by rotating them on all sides and pounding lightly to be sure all is tight. I love it. We configured it into two equal racks using 24 hexagonal pieces in three rows. We have 42 bottles of wine stored on two shelves now. Yes, it needs to be oiled or stained but we didn't. The natural oak is great for us. I am seriously thinking of buying another set. 5Perfect for my needs! I assembled these on my work bench with a weighted rubber mallet after staining the pieces and I had zero trouble getting them together. I built them in one column, 1 cube shy of using all pieces and it fit perfectly under my 25" opening. I was looking for something to make use of a stupid built in desk in our kitchen and this filled the space next to our new beer fridge perfectly, while not blocking airflow. Theyr e much lighter color wood than the picture shows, but stained easily to more closely coordinate to my maple cabinets, and I very much like that my purchase supports a US business. They are not finished; be prepared for some light sanding to pretty them up a little if you'll be displaying them countertop, I just knocked the slivers off with my hand since it is going on the floor. 5Used it for my KALLAX/EXPEDIT shelf I had to do quite a bit of adjustments to make sure it fit in a slot in my IKEA kallax/expedit shelf which measures to be 13" in height and length. I'm considering staining it to a darker color but I think it looks quite nice the way it is. 4Not properly finished but fixable The holes drilled for the dowels aren't properly finished, so they have splinters and burr around them (see picture). I had to buy sandpaper to finish the process. The octagonal pieces also appear to have a light varnish or sealant on them in the photos on Amazon, but they're entirely unfinished in the shipped product (see same attached picture). While not finished to my satisfaction, the overall quality is good, and I'd rather sand off some burrs and keep an otherwise quality product. 3Made in the USA! First this was the perfect size I needed to fit into our bar. I liked it so well I bought a second one. You can build these in different shapes, size and are expandable. It comes natural so you may finish it to fit your decor or needs. You can put clear poly on it, stain, or paint it. What I did was rub Old English dark wood on it to get it to match the bar. Best part it is made in Vermont, USA and I was willing to pay $5 more for it. It is very sturdy and you will need a rubber mallet or a hammer and tap board to put it together. No glue needed. But follow the instructions, and I did, so putting it together was easy but you will need to pound it together as the pegs fit very tightly into to holes. It won't fall apart but I don't think you can get it apart after either! Can't wait for my second one to show up! Thank you JK Adams! 5
