    Yep. It works...gets easier after each try Works as stated. I used 1/2" grommets on a projection screen. A bit of labor but that's how it is with this basic toolset. Tips:- be patient and detail- line up hole to ensure you have enough clearance for the grommet. If hole is too close to edge, your grommet may stick over edge -- not so good.- flat surface. Thick Cardboard or wood as surface to set the grommet- make sure you use hammer to hit blunt side evenly to cut a hole evenly.- evenly hitting the anvil should bend the grommet evenly. Few solid hits with hammer should do it 4Nice little kit for the price but the others were ... Nice little kit for the price but the others were correct the cutting tool is to dull to be of any use. I took a small scissors and cut an X instead. 3Amazing value in this nice little grommet kit! I don't install grommets everyday, so justifying spending hundreds of dollars on a production press just wasn't in the budget. For those of us with smaller projects to do, this kit was perfect! It has everything you need to get the job done. The anvil portion, arguably the most important part of the kit, is very well made. I'd give it 5 stars. The wood block is just a piece of oak. The cutter works okay, I'd give it 4 stars. The grommets I'd say are not the best, so I'd probably give them 3 stars. But again, the most important part is the anvil and this kit delivers a top notch anvil that will pound hundreds and hundreds of grommets. I was using the cutter on some nylon webbing, so it didn't cut the best. I suspect it works far better on leather or cotton. Regardless, it did work, it just wasn't awesome. The grommets are pretty light weight. I've definitely used heavier grommets before. That said, they were free and come with the kit and they work fine and seem to hold tight. How they'll stand up over time I'm not sure, but I'll just have to see. So if you want super nice top notch grommets, you'll probably have to buy those separately. Overall I give this kit 5 stars because it delivers an excellent anvil and it's very affordable. 5These work good. Not 5 star fantastic and why I only ... These work good. I may give the snaps a try since I think for my application they may be more appropriate. Certainly some technique involved and be sure to use a hard surface under your wood block. I took warning from others that the cutter wasn t sharp enough and used my dremel to make the blade very sharp before using. I didn t even try it out of the box since it wouldn t scale a fingernail. You can see in my photos it s tricky getting them round. Be sure to twist and tap then twist and tap like instructions read for best results. 4I had put duct tape around the edges of the sheet for a border and the grommets are sturdy and were again easy to put in I bought this kit and had NEVER done grommets before. I was putting holes in a sheet I was going to use for a backyard theater project. So simple to use I became an expert after the first one. Completely satisfied. 5Good for price Good kit for this price. Includes the everything you need to install grommets except the hammer.The grommets themselves are decent quality. Time will tell if they hold well and don't rust. My package was slightly opened and most of the contents spilled into the box. 2 of the washers were missing, so I didn't get 24 complete grommets. I got 22 complete grommets. Its not the end of the world. I only needed about 1 for my project, and Imagine only needing 1 every now and again.Everything functions as I imagined. The wood piece is small and isn't really that hard. Its hard enough to punch holes through the fabric with the hole punch. I would not say the hole punch is super sharp, but it does work. I went through 2 layers of Sunbrella Marine fabric with ease, and I can see this working with up to about 4 layers. Your best bet is to use a heavier hammer and swing light, as opposed to a light hammer with a heavy swing. I found that a 2.5 pound hammer was ideal. With this hammer, the grommet installation is a piece of cake. Just tap lightly a few times, check it, tap a couple more times, check it, light taps to snug it down. Do not over hammer or the anvil gets stuck in the grommet and can be difficult to unstuck.The hole punch seems durable enough for 100 uses or more. The grommet installation tool seems durable enough for several hundred grommets or more. The hardwood piece is probably only good for a few dozen cuts. No big deal, I did not expect that to last long.Overall, I would buy this again at this price. I would recommend this for occasional grommet installation for the home user. Not really a pro tool, so don't get your hopes up. This is really more for repairs than for production. 5Best grommet happening, tools could be longer. Simply the best grommet out there but the tools are a bit disconcerting to use (small and short). Dump the little block of wood in the kit and use a short 2" x 6" to support the pounding you'll be doing. I purchased General Tools Hollow Steel Punch P/N 1280. It's much sharper and longer than the hollow punch that comes with the kit. Prepare the poly tarp by wiping down the grommet area with 99% isopropyl alcohol, then use gorilla tape to wrap the edge, extending 2" from the edge on both sides. Tamp the tape over its entire surface with the hammer for the best adhesion to the poly tarp before punching and setting the grommet. While setting the grommet continue to test installation by attempting to rotate (spin) the grommet. If you can't rotate then it's good. I doubled the number of grommets in 4 heavy duty tarps over an unfinished deck to support the weight of snow expected here in Washington, allowing continued work on the deck during the winter. I certainly wish General Tools offered bulk replacement grommets. 4Great!!! I purchased this kit to add grommets to my gazebo canopy. It was my first time working with grommets and the kit was easy to use. It did not come with instructions but after watching a few U-Tube videos it was easy enough to figure out. Grommets get used up fast so make sure to have some extras for bigger jobs. 5Used to love these.... So I have been using this brand of grommets for years. My main use for them is in Renaissance costuming for a lacing up bodices and such. I have always loved these grommets because they don't split the metal in the back and they look nice on both sides and also don't shred the ribbon. I recently ordered for refill packs of grommets for use in costuming, and I am very sad to report that it appears that general tools has cheapened the mettle of a use in the making of these grammonts, causing the metal to split as you are hammering them down. Out of 20 grommets I put in to this costume, 14 were split. It's just disappointing because I thought I could trust the quality of these. I will definitely be testing out other brands after this, I'm not sure if better ones exist however. As you seen on my photo the to grammonts on the left hand side have split leaving jagged metal edges that will tear up my ribbon. The one on the right did not split. 3Great little kit Great little kit, worked perfectly. The grommets are much better than the POS grommets that came on my tarp from the factory. The tools worked great. Remember to turn the device a 1/4 turn between smacking, and I found that if your first couple blows with your hammer are done with a moderate amount of force (instead of pounding it very hard) it tends to make for a nice, more uniform, mating of the grommet pieces. I found that when I struck it real hard on the first couple blows the lip of the grommet on one side did not fold over as well. It seemed like several moderate strikes made for a better seal/closure by slowly folding the lip over, as apposed to smacking the dog snot out of it. 5
