Customer Reviews

Great for a stove level with counter These strips came in a nicely finished white enamel that looks crisp and clean. It is probably unfair to mark this product down a star, but there were two problems with it in my application:1) What I didn't appreciate from reading the reviews of this product is that, for the strips to work properly, one's stove must be at the same level as one's counters. My stove is about 1/4" higher than my counter. So, whichever way I set the strips in the gaps between my stove and the counter, they ended up tilted upward toward the stove. In other words, they did not lie flat; they did not seal the gap, but rather created a new gap, albeit one less likely to swallow spills.2) The other problem was that the magnetic strips did not stick to my supposedly stainless steel professional-type stove. This, coupled with problem 1) above, meant that it was very easy to knock the strips out of position. These are not faults of the product. If you have a stove that is level with your counters, this product would probably perform beautifully. 4Quality Control Issues I encountered the same problems others have described. The magnetic strips were coming loose. A little super glue fixed that. But more importantly the caps were not completely straight, I bent them into shape as best I could, but they don't lie perfectly flat so there are spots where crumbs and spills can get underneath. They're better than nothing, I guess, but fall short of a perfect solution. 2Works well, looks good. An inexpensive solution to the gap between stove and countertop. I wanted something that covered the narrow gap between my stovetop and the countertop. This Gap Cap did the trick. Although I would have been happy to purchase the product at some local store in my area, I could not find it available. Wal-Mart sells them, but it was not in stock in Nashville. The length is just right to go from the edge of my counter to the back panel of my range. Although made of aluminum, it has a magnetic strip that clings to the stove top. When I installed the strip, I had to lower the stove height by about 1/8 inch, so that the strip was at counter level. Also, I discovered that my countertop is not perfectly level from front to back. Because I wanted the gap cap parallel to the countertop from front to back, I adjusted the stove accordingly and now my rangetop is no longer level. This situation is not the fault of the Gap Cap, however. The Gap Cap offers the protection against spills that I wanted, and it is easily removed for cleaning, such as when a liquid gets spilled on the counter. The Gap Cap does not offer a waterproof seal when it rests on the countertop. This lack of seal is why I knocked a star off my rating. I thought about putting a strip of thin rubber under that edge, but have not acted on this thought, since the strip is so easily removed and replaced.I looked for alternative products to achieve the desired result, and the Miles Kimball Gap Cap seems to be the best and almost the only solution. Two photos show what the Gap Cap looks like on my stove/counter. Note that the edge view makes the Gap Cap appear to not fit well. I have almost no gap between my stove and the counter. If I had even a small space, I think the Gap Cap would actually touch the countertop properly, like in the product photos provided in the Amazon description. From the top view, you don't see the edge lifting up, and it has not been a problem for me. Spills are still controlled as I wanted.I highly recommend 4Everyone needs one (or two) of the these This is such a clever thing, I wish I had one years ago. It is a strip that fits over that gap between the stove and countertop, preventing crumbs and drips from getting down there. It has a flap that fits in the gap and a magnetic strip to grip the stove. It lifts off for cleaning. It seems to be a standard size. It is not something you could cut with scissors. The colors are limited, but perhaps other companies make them in other colors. My stove and countertop are off white (I think they called the color almond way back when these are not exactly new), and the gap cap is very, very white. They are sold separately, so you will need to purchase two if you want one on either side of the stove. 4I base my observation on the fact I have an older similar product that doesn't have this problem so compare and the older product works better. Also The little tab that stick out vertically is too short and this doesn't help this thing stay in place. I base my observation on the fact I have an older similar product that doesn't have this problem so compare and the older product works better. Also, the magnet strip became detached from the item and that also makes it harder to stay in place. Would also help it was longer. It specially moves all over while cleaning. Good thing I only bought one. I would not buy again and I am not satisfied. 3Looks Great! Unlike the previous aluminum ones I've had in the past that stuck out and eventually discolored, this blends perfectly with my black stove-top and black granite counters. I had to cut it down, as it was a few inches to long, and it was very easy to do. 5Arrived bent ... This was mailed in a bag, and thus arrived bent. I tried to straighten it out, but the kink remained. It is so inexpensive that if I returned it, the effort and gas required would cost almost as much as the product. Too bad, since I bought it to replace an earlier version which had sufficed for a good while. On that one, the magnetic strip dangled for years but the product worked adequately. Miles Kimball should send this out in a box, for goodness sakes. Oh, and I had expected two strips, but only got one. That is probably my fault, but potential buyers should be aware of that too.I have ordered Original Gap Stopper Pure White, Professional Grade, Heavy 7.2 oz Silicone, Set of 2, Covers Gap between Stove & Countertop. When it arrives and I have installed it, I will review that one and let you know. Tune in for that. 3love it Love it with the magnet strip, stays on securely. Fast delivery. I bought 1 first to try out. Decided to buy another one for the other side of the range. Works great. Great value too.update: my stove is 1/2" higher than counter, so the cap sit on the angle rather than level flat in my brown mix a bit black granite. and it still works perfect, doesnt look odd. since it has magnet, and woukd stay onto stove without having the other side to rest on. i decided to order 2nd one for the stove/fridge side. they both works perfectly has expected. 5Not heavy duty, but works pretty well after some fiddling This item was ordered to cover a gap between a stove top and the adjoining countertop. After some adjustments to the stove legs and some cutting with a Dremel tool, it fits snuggly. The item is made from fairly thin aluminum. That means one can shape it easily with a Dremel, but it's a long way from heavy duty. It arrived in a padded envelope with no protection against bending. The edges are sharp, but are easy rounded with a medium metal file. An emery board might also work. A flexible magnet strip runs along the underside that goes on the stove top, which works well. It takes some fiddling with the stove legs to get a close fit on the counter side. I wish they would put a bit more crown in the profile, which make it easier to get a good fit on the counter. 4A little pricey for one... You only get one stove gap cover. This is the second time I have ordered this product. I bought this as a set and it worked great. I then ordered a silicone version, and did't really care for it. Now I ordered a new one- I forgot that there was only one, and at almost $10, its a little pricey. This was mailed to me in a plastic mail bag with no bubble wrap or anything to protect it. The magnet on one side of this brand new product has already come unattached from the gap cover.... and to me, it's not as wide as the first time I bought it. That being set, I probably would not buy this again, and go with a different maker. 2
