Customer Reviews

Perfectly sized for the home barista's countertop After about six pucks you'll want to think about emptying it, so totally impractical for a coffee shop or cafe, but it's sized perfectly for the home barista's countertop. This is a solidly-built little knock box that won't rattle or otherwise amplify the thwack thwack pounding of your portafilter. When I'm wanting to be extra quiet, though (preparing my wife's first, morning espresso drink), I've been known to hold it in one hand while knocking out the puck. 5Too Small!! Too Small! Too Small! Messy! Messy! Messy! It does look cool, but get something with a larger diameter and you'll be a lot happier! When you hit the portafiler head on the bar, grounds scatter onto the counter.THE BOX DIAMETER IS SIMPLY TOO SMALL - A FATAL DESIGN FLAW!When using a non-pressurized portafilter, soupy mess splatters. With the drier pucks from pressurized portafilters, it's hard to get them out and they still splatter.I don't understand the many positive reviews of this knockbox. 1Perfect for anyone with an espresso machine. When my wife first proposed getting one of these I thought it sounded absurd. We bought an espresso machine about a week ago and after several days of knocking the grinds into the trashcan and dripping coffee all over the floor, I realized why this item would be necessary. I saw that some people complain that this knock box is too small and they get grounds everywhere, but I cannot see how that would be possible. I have used this for about three days and I have had no problems with the smaller size. I never make a mess and I am not sure why you would want a larger knock box. This fits discreetly beside the espresso machine and it is easy to clean and sturdy as well. This is absolutely necessary for anyone who owns an espresso machine, if for nothing else, because it is much more sanitary than knocking the grounds into the trash can. 5Read the description for dimensions. I've had this knockbox for over five years now and use it almost daily. I'm amazed by all the reviews saying this thing is too small and grounds get all over the counter. For one, the dimensions are right there in the description. Two, something's wring with your grind or machine if a good solid puck does not come out of your portafilter after brewing. I have a 58mm pro portafilter and don't have any problems with grounds getting everywhere when I use this knockbox. Yes it is small, it fills up fast, but I needed a small scale box to fit in the space I have. If you have room get a larger box.The big problem with mine is the circular seam in the bottom allowing moisture to ooze out (a problem only if I splash water in from cleaning the machine or something). I read all the low reviews and no one else mentions this. Perhaps it's been fixed on later models? At any rate, it's a pain when it happens so it sits on a small tray. 4Small and Sturdy I wanted something compact, and didn't like the larger ones that look like an ice bucket. When I opened the Amazon box, and saw just the box this was in, I thought it might be too small. Thought about exchanging it for a larger one, but figured I'd give it a try first. It is just the right size. I make about 3 espressos a day, and, have to empty this every other day. No big deal to me. I'm not that lazy. It also works as a nice tamping box for my portafilter. I have a Breville Barista Express, so, I imagine it would be the same for any Breville portafilter. In the end, I have no regrets with this purchase. 5Still very happy 3 1/2 years later. As the title says, I've had mine 3 1/2 years. Still in perfect shape and never a mess for me with my 58 mm filter basket. I am rather tall, 6'5", so perhaps the angle of my knock is more vertical than others who have sliding issues. I also knock out the puck immediately after the shot so it takes very little effort. If I happen to forget to do so, then I end up using a knife rather than bang really hard. I empty the knock box frequently due to the small size so I do not have any molding happening as I did with the previous box which did not last as long as this one. I am currently shopping as a gift for a friend and thought I'd see what the 1-star folks say. I have not had any of their difficulties, so I will order the gift as I had planned. 5Surprisingly small The knockbox is compact, and fits where the mug should go in an espresso machine, saving you counter space. It's sturdy to withstand some beating and is dishwasher top rack safe. Also, it's pretty. So the pros are:compact, easy to clean, saves the hassle of slamming an espresso handle thing into your trash can.Cons are:It's small, with my clumsy hands and horrible hand-eye coordination I have on occasion managed to spill some of the spent grounds on the counter (all you need to do is hit it at an off angle)The rubberized bar thing doesn't disconnect from the box (although since it's dishwasher safe, why would you want to disconnect it?)All in all, if it were a little bigger (wider diameter for instance) I would give it 5 stars. 4 because I occasionally have to clean my counter. 4Small & rugged! This knockbox is the perfect size for me as I didn't want to take up a lot of counter space. It's about the size of a Hellmann's mayo jar only shorter. I find it'll hold 5-6 pucks before I need to dump them out. It's got a rubber ring on the bottom so it doesn't skate off the counter when you use it and it's built like a tank. Dishwasher safe to boot! All-in-all a very nice knockbox. 5It's a plastic box and it holds coffee pucks. This is a nicely designed and clearly durable little knockbox. A lot of people seem to be complaining that it's small. I guess it's a little on the small side, it'll hold probably 5 or 6 pucks from a commercial-sized 58mm filter before it'll need to be dumped. That's totally acceptable for me, it takes about 5 steps from my espresso setup to the garbage can so I'm not going to complain about emptying it once a week. The plastic is nice and thick, it has a glossy finish and the bar has a nice rubber coating all the way around it. The bar does not appear to be removable. I just kinda rinse it with water if it gets cruddy and then it's fine. It's cheap, it's durable and it doesn't look stupid. I'm also going to share my million-dollar idea with you guys: I have a vinyl plotter so I'm gonna cut a sticker to put on it that says "I'd Hit That" and stick it on the box. GET IT?! I'm hilarious. 5My Espresso Life Is So Much Better It's amazing to me, just how much a little thing like this knock box can impact how enjoyable it is to make espresso. Every morning I'm up making a cortado for my wife and myself with our Solis Crema, the machine isn't all that close to the compost bin so I'm constantly shuffling spent beans across the kitchen dripping hot espresso into my hand. This knock box changed all that and I can now make several espressos, knock the spent cake into this little box and go on to the next. This knock box from Dreamfarm is very well constructed. It takes a beating and hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. It is large enough to hold 5 or 6 pucks but still fits under the overhang of the espresso machine. I'm so glad I bought this, it has improved my coffee life considerably! 5
