Customer Reviews

Not as picturedI don't mind the product that I receieved but, it is a bit different from the picture above. It is square rather then a rectangle and the pages were not cut evenly. Not bad but not great... 3Plants and Markings In the PagesBought this as a cool little book for Dungeons and Dragons, just something for me to jot down all the stuff that happens to my character, and I just got it today. The only picture of the pages I saw was in someone else's review and the pages looked really good and untarnished, but when I looked in mine I saw tons of little plant pieces, crinkled pages, and a couple of other markings. I wouldn't actually mind just a couple of these, since I think that only a few imperfections would add to it for the D&D game, but they're everywhere throughout the book. I know that this is made with paper that's basically recycled plants, but I didn't think that it would be this bad. 2Five StarsSmall but I love it and it doesn't have any lines on it 5Nice but Impractical--Even for DreamersI purchased this book with Wordsworthian fantasies of rambling in the woods and dashing off spontaneous, profound poetry. Aside from my enormously deranged ego, there is a problem with this scenario: the book itself. That's not to say it's poorly made--it isn't. The cover is well-made from smooth leather, the clasp stoutly proof against haphazardly opening. The paper is slightly rough in texture, which will achieve a trippy union between it and any pen nib.No, the problem for me is it's portability--and by that I mean it is excessively small. I don't mean in terms of just its size (I read the measurements), but in terms of its layout. The leaves are so small and are further limited by the awkwardness of the binding. These are relatively inexpensive books, but at just a few words per page, it's impractical for anyone with adult-sized handwriting 4Dye comes off on everything, would not recommend. The book is cute, and the perfect size and shape. But whatever they used to color the outside comes off on everything. Just holding it my fingers are colored, and because of that there are now orange marks all over the pages. Heck it's been sitting on my desk and it left smudges on my notepad! I bought this for my friend's young daughter, but I won't be giving it to her because I'm afraid of 1) where else that dye will end up. 2) if it's toxic. 1Very Nice JournalI really like this journal. It is, as most other reviews I have seen, smaller than I anticipated. It's about the size of larger index cards. However, it seems really well made. I'm not 100% sure if the leather is genuine but it seems to be, and the opposite side of it feels like animal hide. It has a lot of nice, aged-looking soft pages that seem like homemade paper, and in general the picture is very accurate to how the outside looks (the actual pages are less of a pure white than the picture indicates, though-which to me is a good thing). On the pages, occasionally you find little splotches of stuff (not sure what it is) but if you want it usually scrapes off easily with a fingernail. Overall I really love the aesthetic of this journal, and I do in fact think I'll be using it to put poems in; However I've also considered using it as a prop in Dungeons and Dragons, and it would work well for that. 5Antique Look JournalReally cool little leather journal. It s small; only around 4 x 5 inches but it s cute, useful and fits in my smaller purse to carry with me to jot down ideas and keep in case I need paper to write something down. I love these kinds of journals because they inspire me to want to write or think about ideas for stories. If you like antique-look type journals then this one might be for you. It s leather and has hand stitching along the edges and on the spine. There s a really nice metal latch closure on the front I really like too. There s around 240 pages counting front and back. The paper is handmade. You can tell from the look and feel of the paper. The paper is thick too.The only thing I hate about these kinds of journals are you can t refill. 4Pretty good purchaseSo I purchased this for a Dungeons and dragons campaign that I'm working on. I have an NPC that has a diary that he brings around with him and so as a little extra I decided to actually make one for my players if they ever decide to look at it. I received it in a timely manner and I was fairly pleased the only thing that I would say that I don't necessarily am satisfied with is the odd marks on the outside (however given its purpose I think I'm OK with it.) I'll probably just purposely dirty it up on the outside. As for the paper it's all right. i'm going to use my uniball pen on it. It took it really well on one side and I didn't leek through the other side. I can't say the same with the speedball calligraphy ink though. Sharpie marks are faint on the other side. Overall I am happy with my purchase. It is aesthetically pleasing the outside is fairly nice. 5Mixed feelingsI did extensive research before buying this book. It was a present for my Husband who is a Writer and very picky. The book got lots of rave reviews, so I took a chance. When I gave it to my Husband-he loved it- the size, the leather, the quality, etc. But I was NOT so impressed-maybe he was just being nice? I found the leather to be very thin and without much aroma-and not really sure it WAS leather? It did not have that squishy, thick, flexible FEEL of leather? Also not so good was that the PRICE kept going UP--and UP--and UP! In 4 weeks-it has gone up almost 50%!! In the last 10 DAYS it went up 25%!! The little journal is okay-but I think the Seller has priced himself out of the market. The Journal is very SMALL--and would appeal to a very specific market& I think the Seller has gone too far. I was going to buy my Husband ANOTHER ONE for Christmas-- but not when I saw the NEW PRICE! Nope. There are lots of choices available-time to go elsewhere. 2I ended up choosing the one with the thicker stitches because I feel like the loosely-stitched one would fall apart a lot soonerI received two of these by mistake and was able to compare the two books. One was heavier, had a larger latch on the front, a loose stitching pattern, and had much thicker paper, while the other had a smaller latch, tighter stitching pattern, and thinner paper. I ended up choosing the one with the thicker stitches because I feel like the loosely-stitched one would fall apart a lot sooner. The thinner pages still hold ink from my Micron pen well without bleeding through, so that's a relief. If anything I HIGHLY recommend you buy one of these books JUST FOR THE SMELL! It smells HEAVENLY 4
